Fall Pool Maintenance Tips: Part 2

Share this article:

Maintain Your Water Level

You may not think about keeping your pool full when you do not plan to use it, but you need to maintain a healthy water level even when your pool is not in use. If the pool dries up, you risk burning the motor on the pool filter and other equipment. A simple mistake like this can cost you a lot of money in pool repairs or replacement parts, so you might as well take the time to top off the pool as needed.
Note: If you are losing an excess amount of water at any given time, it may not purely be from evaporation. Look for cracks and leaks around your pool and make all necessary repairs. This will save you money filling up your pool, and it will protect the pool’s structural integrity.

Check Your Water Chemistry

Your pool’s water chemistry should be maintained all year round, not just when you’re in the pool. Everything from the pH level of the water to regular enzyme treatments should be monitored in the fall, winter, and spring. If this is something you do not want to check on your own, you may consider hiring a pool maintenance team to take care of the work for you.  They will come out the appropriate time to make sure your water is in perfect shape. Contact the team here at Pool Max for a free quote for your pool maintenance needs.

Store Your Pool Toys

Leftover pool toys floating in the water provide areas for scum and debris to collect on. Store your pool toys in a safe, protected area to be brought out next season. If you have other temporary pool equipment, like a dividing chain between the shallow and deep ends, now would be the time to put that away as well.

Maintain Your Yard

Leaves falling from your trees can pile up in your yards. Over time, these will need to be raked, collected, and taken away. If these leaves are not properly disposed of, they may blow into your pool. The same goes for excess yard clippings left over from the summer. Keep your yard clean so you don’t put any more stress on your pool filter than necessary.

Also keep in mind that overgrown tree roots, weeds, and other natural elements may damage the walkways around your pool. Cracks in the concrete and pavement may turn into trip and fall hazards later on. Collections of water from rain and gutter drainage may also put pressure on the concrete, which could cause it to crack over time. Your pool maintenance team can assess your property in its entirety to ensure you are set up for success.
